Mushrooms & Gac Fruit

Mushroom is the base ingredient in our products. To enhance the medicinal benefits of our products we have included our secret ingredient - The Gac fruit. This magical fruit has been used in medicines for over 1200 years. It contains beta-carotene and lycopene in huge proportions due to which this fruit has a reddish orange colour. Its seeds and pulp are rich in monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids. It also contains high concentration of Omega 3 fatty acids and Omega 6 linoleic acids. It has 70 times more lycopene than tomatoes, and is rich in antioxidants. This helps in fighting cancer cells and also helps against inflammation. It tastes like avocados but is sweeter, and has an aroma similar to a cucumber.


            Types of Mushrooms we Use!

1.Chaga

The Chaga mushroom (scientific name Inonotus obliquus) grows on birch trees. It is a woody growth that looks similar to burnt charcoal. It is found mainly in north eastern United States, Canada, Northern Europe and cold parts of Asia. It contains large quantities of pigment melanin, which is one of the primary reasons for its use in medicinal purposes. Its exterior is deep back but, on the inside, it is a deep shade of orange. Chaga is known by many other names such as Black Mass, Birch Canker, Cinder Conk, Clinker Polypore, and Conk Rot. In Norway it is known as kreftkjuke which means “cancer fungus”.

 

Chaga has a hard texture, which can be dried and converted to powder form to make Chaga tea and extracts. The powder can also be packed in capsules and be used as dietary supplements. It has various health benefits like boosting our immune system, increasing the vitality and energy levels, providing the much-needed Vitamin D, iron, calcium, potassium and magnesium. It also helps to lower cholesterol, prevent diabetes, heart diseases and certain types of cancers. It is rich in antioxidants which can detoxify our system as well. Research shows that Chaga can reduce cancer cells growth by 60%, as it contains an antioxidant called triterpene. High doses of triterpene can also kill cancer cells. Chaga also reduces bad cholesterol levels. Chaga is also well known to cure inflammation of the cells.

 

Although we have seen various health benefits of Chaga, its use does have its own side effects. It contains a substance called Oxalate, which prevents in the absorption of nutrients and is also known to cause kidney stones. Overdose of Chaga powder can also lead to kidney failure. 2.Cordyceps

The cordyceps mushroom (scientific name Cordyceps sinensis) is a combination of caterpillar and fungus, as it lives on certain caterpillars. There are over 400 species of cordyceps which are found mainly in mountainous regions of China, Sikkim, Bhutan, Nepal, Korea, Thailand and Vietnam. It has a long, finger like body and is usually orange or brown in colour. The wild Cordyceps is a rare find and is priced at about $20000 per kilogram. In order to make supplements, many companies use lab grown Cordyceps.

 

Cordyceps have many health benefits like improving levels of Oxygen intake, help in controlling cholesterol levels, aid in weight loss, thereby improving the health condition of diabetic patients. It also has anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties, which helps in regulate blood pressure levels. It contains a compound called cordycepin which relaxes blood vessels, improves blood circulation and lowers blood pressure. Cordycepin compound also helps to kill colon cancer cells and leukaemia cells. Cordyceps also helps to improve libido in men and increases their sex drive. They also help in certain heart diseases. In China, the use of Cordyceps in the treatment of Arrhythmia, a heart condition which slows the heartbeat, is approved by the government.

It has a metallic taste which may stay in the mouth. Also, people with allergies may want to consider their doctor before consuming Cordyceps. 3.Reishi

The Reishi mushroom (scientific name Ganoderma lucidum) is found mainly in hot and humid locations in Asia. They grow at the base of deciduous trees and are tough and woody, with a bitter taste. The mushroom can be eaten fresh as well as be converted to powdered form or extracts. It contains molecules like polysaccharides, triterpenoids, and peptidoglycans, that are responsible for its health benefits. It also contains various vitamins, minerals, amino acids and dietary fibre. It is also known by various other names such as Basidiomycetes Mushroom, Champignon d'Immortalité, Champignon Reishi, Ganoderma, Hongo Reishi, Ling Chih, Mushroom of Immortality, Mushroom of Spiritual Potency, Red Reishi, and Rei-Shi, Spirit Plant.

 

Reishi mushroom has various health benefits such as making the immune system stronger, reducing depression and fatigue, improving heart health, fighting cancer, controlling blood sugar levels, and preventing damage as they are very effective anti-oxidants. It is also an anti-inflammatory food that can slow down the aging process. Various medical research institutes are studying the medicinal properties of the Reishi mushroom to check their effectiveness in reducing the size of tumours. It is also used in the treatment of Herpes. This Reishi extract could be a good alternative and may even have the potential for aiding with the treatment of HPV.

 

Along with the various health benefits of consuming this mushroom, there are some side effects that we need to keep in mind. One may experience dizziness, itching, dry mouth, stomach upset, nausea and rashes. High dose may cause excessive bleeding in people with bleeding disorders. They can cause the blood pressure levels to drop. So, people with low blood pressure should avoid it. 4.Tremella  

The Tremella mushroom (scientific name Tremella fuciformis) is usually found in tropical, sub-tropical and temperate regions of North and South America, Europe, Caribbean, Sub Saharan Africa, Australia, New Zealand and Asia. They grow on dead branches of broadleaf trees. This mushroom is commercially grown in China and is also known as snow fungus, silver ear fungus, snow ear, and white jelly mushroom. It is mainly used in the beauty products industry due to its capability to slow down the aging process. It is an edible mushroom and can be eaten right off the bark of the tree.

 

This mushroom is high in anti-oxidants, Vitamin D and Potassium, which makes it great for general health and fitness. It also contains a lot of fibre which can satisfy 178% of the fibre requirement of the human body. It can bring a vibrant glow to our skin, as it prevents skin cell damage and also slows down the aging process. It can also lower the bad cholesterol levels and prevent heart decease. Tremella protects the nerve cells and also has the ability to fight lung cancer cells, thereby protecting our lungs. Due to its hydrating qualities, it is also used in various skincare and beauty products. It helps in improving skin tone, texture and elasticity of the skin.

5.Lion’s Mane

 

The Lion’s Mane mushroom (Scientific name Hericium erinaceus) is an edible mushroom from the tooth fungus family. Connoisseurs have mentioned that it tastes like a lobster. It is found mainly in Europe, North America and Asia. They are white fungus shaped like the mane of a lion and thus it derives its name from this peculiar similarity with a lion’s mane. It is also known as monkey head mushroom, bearded tooth mushroom, satyr’s beard, bearded hedgehog mushroom, pom pom mushroom, or bearded tooth fungus. It grows during late summers and fall time on hardwood of dead trees. Sometimes it can also be found on living trees and it requires humid environment for proper growth.

 

This mushroom is a storehouse of antioxidants and is also highly anti-inflammatory, which aids in prevention of diabetes and heart illnesses. It boosts immunity in the human body. It also increases brain function and improves our cognitive function. This leads to lowering anxiety and depression levels in human beings. It can also prevent severe diseases like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s decease. Consuming lion’s mane mushroom over a period of 16 weeks leads to improvement in our cognitive functions and overall brain health. It also helps in lowering bad cholesterol levels. 6.Turkey Tail

The Turkey Tail mushroom (scientific name Trametes versicolor) is polypore mushroom that grows throughout the world. It is named so because its multi-colours resemble the tail of a wild turkey. It has a leather like texture and grows in groups on logs or slumps of deciduous trees. It is a stalkless mushroom with a dark brown or rust brown cap. It is not edible but can be used for medicinal purposes.

 

The Turkey Tail mushroom has various health benefits and is used as medicine for centuries in Asia. It has high quantities of phenol and flavonoids, which is an antioxidant that helps to reduce stress. It contains as many as 35 different types of phenols. It also contains Polysaccharopeptides, which boosts the immune system and helps the human body to fight breast cancer, leukaemia, colon cancer, lung cancer and gastric cancer. It also boosts the immune system by maintaining a healthy gut function. It increases the level of beneficial bacteria in the intestine, thereby making it function healthily. 7.Maitake

The Maitake mushroom (scientific name Grifola frondose) typically grows at the base of trees, especially oak trees. It is found in North America, China and Europe in late summer to early autumn. Maitake means dancing mushroom in Japanese. It is also known as hen-of-the-woods, ram’s head and sheep’s head. It was discovered in Japan over 2000 years ago and the people danced as they were overjoyed by the taste, sight and medicinal properties of this mushroom, and thus it got its name from that experience, as the dancing mushroom. It can grow to as large as 100 centimetres or 40 inches. It grows in a cluster of many greyish brown caps, which are spoon shaped. It can weigh as much as 45 kgs and is thus also called King of Mushrooms. It is edible and is majorly cooked in China and Japan.

 

Maitake contains a large number of triterpenes and polysaccharides, which helps in strengthening the immune system. It helps in preventing diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol levels. It also helps in fighting cancer by slowing the growth of tumours. Its beta-glucan compound can also eliminate cancer cells. It helps to cure Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) in women and helps to regularize the ovulation cycle. It helps to fight the deadly decease of HIV/AIDS. It also contains copper and potassium which can prove to be beneficial for health.

 

There are no known side effects of this mushroom. However, one needs to take into account that as Maitake grows older hardens and becomes difficult to digest. It has to be cooked well before it becomes safe for human food consumption. 8.Poria

 

The Poria mushroom (Scientific name Wolfiporia extensa) is used mainly in Chinese medicine. It is found all across the world in subterranean climate. It is usually in the shape of a small coconut. It feeds on moist wood and causes it to rot. It goes by various names like China Root, Chinese Tuckahoe, Fu Ling, Hoelen, and Matsuhudo. It is even known as “the medicine of immortality” due to immense health benefits.

 

Poria helps in preventing Alzheimer's disease, anxiety, cough, cancer, diabetes, diarrhoea, cough, fatigue, high cholesterol, kidney, insomnia, kidney infection, senile dementia, tinnitus, and urination problems. It contains Triterpenes compound which helps to generate insulin in the right quantity in the body. It also fights tumours and prevents breast and pancreatic cancers. Poris is also used in cosmetics and anti-aging products. It helps in curing various skin treatments like eliminating pimples, and also easing the condition of Psoriasis. It contains antioxidants and is also anti-inflammatory in nature.
